What is cupping?

Cupping therapy has been trending lately thanks to the distinctive discolored circles seen on Olympic athletes. Cupping is done by placing small cups on the skin's surface and creating a vacuum with suction, expanding capillary action. It can be used to increase circulation and blood flow, to manage pain or injury, decrease inflammation and swelling, with results being similar to a deep tissue massage.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient science based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and used to treat a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture consists of inserting very thin needles into the skin along specific points along the energy lines of the body to stimulate the body's natural abilities to heal.  As a complimentary form of healing, acupuncture and TCM offer a drug-free option of treating underlying causes of pain and illness, as well as symptomatic relief.

An acupuncture treatment consists of a full intake of presenting issues with a licensed acupuncturist to determine the best course of therapies. Treatments may consist of acupuncture needles, cupping therapy, nutritional and dietary suggestions, Chinese herbs, electro-acupuncture, or a combination of any of the these. Because the effects are cumulative, a course of regular treatments are recommended, as well as periodic treatments to maintain optimum results.

Acupuncture can be an effective treatment for a variety of health concerns, including: neck or back pain, headaches, insomnia, incontinence, circulatory, digestive and respiratory issues, ob-gyn disorders, depression and anxiety, and some forms of paralysis. Please schedule a consultation to see if acupuncture can be part of your holistic health protocol.
